most stretchmarks are usually removed during a tummytuck, but perhaps not all. if they are above the bellybutton some may be left behind though they will be lower down toward the pubic bone.
Stretch marks between the belly button and pubic hairline will be removed. Anything above the belly button will be moved down to the incision line.
Stretch Marks and a Tummy Tuck
The only stretch marks that will be removed in a tummy tuck are those that are present on the skin that is excised as part of the procedure. The stretch marks that remain may be positioned lower down on the abdominal wall following completion of the surgery.
Stretch marks after tummy tuck?
For a traditional tummy tuck, all of the skin between the navel and the pubic hairline is removed. So, you can expect that all of the stretch marks in this zone will be gone. The stretch marks on the flanks may remain as will those that are located above the navel but these will be repositioned to lie downwards towards the bikini line. In either event, the skin will be tighter after a tummy tuck and should lessen the visibility of the stretch marks that remain after surgery.Plan to consult a Board Certified plastic surgeon who can demonstrate plenty of experience treating your type of abdominal wall disorder.
A typical full abdominoplasty patient is at or near their ideal weight and is looking for help in removing excess skin and tightening of the abdominal wall after they are done bearing children. It can be a powerful procedure that can remove excess skin and stretch marks from below the belly button and tighten the belly muscles. The trade off is a scar in the bikini line that extends hip to hip and a scar around the belly button.
Realistic expectations are important however. A detailed examination will help delineate the best surgical option. Consultation with a surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery would be the next best step. For more info on tummy tucks and mommy makeovers, see our link below.
Depends on their location
It depends on where the stretch marks are. Stretch marks located above your belly button or on your sides won’t be removed but may be relocated because the tissues are pulled down. Those that are located below your belly button down to the top of your pubic area can be removed. However, you should know that not all in this area may be removed.
After a Tummy Tuck procedure, will you still see the stretch marks?
A tummy tuck entails removing skin from below the belly button. This is an area that often has stretch marks and these will be removed with the TT. Any stretch marks which exist above the belly button will not be removed but will be moved downwards often making them less conspicuous. Your plastic surgeon will be able to review with you the effect of the TT on your stretch marks.
Hello and thank you for your question. It depends on the location of the stretch marks. All stretch marks below the belly button can be removed. If you are an appropriate candidate, a tummy tuck can be done through a low and short incision, all completely below the
bikini line. Your muscles can also be
plicated resulting in a flat abdomen. Make sure you
specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have
had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The
most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I
recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic
surgeon who can evaluate you in person.
Best wishes and good luck.

Many are removed if they are between the belly button and pubis. Those above the BB are moved down. Not all are removed.
Stretch marks after tummy tuck
The stretch marks below the umbilicus should be excised but those above, although flattened, will remain. The general result is a much more aesthetically pleasing abdomen.
