The use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) as a treatment or as an adjunct to other treatments has been a hot topic in both medicine and surgery for over a decade. Platelets taken from a tube of your own blood are concentrated, activitated and injected into the areas of concern usually over the course of several sessions. Why? Because platelets contain growth factors which should enhance tissue healing. That's the theory. Does it work? Maybe, but so far, the clinical research is not robust enough to give definitive conclusions and protocols vary widely. Certainly, there are plenty of anecdotal stories of benefits in orthopedics, etc, which are driving interest in further research and testing, and it doesn't appear to have a downside.

In the context of CO2 vaginal laser resurfacing (FemiLift, MonaLisa, etc), PRP has been used in an effort to improve the quality of the vaginal skin and improve it's hydration when treating women with vaginal atrophy. Women with vaginal atrophy have severely dehydrated vaginal skin. CO2 laser energy is absorbed primarily by water. So the thinking is that if you increase the water content by injecting PRP a few weeks before the laser session, you'll get more laser stimulation of collagen.

With the availability of recent technology, there are few nonsurgical vaginal rejuvenation options available for our patients. CO2 fractionated lasers include the #FemiLift, #MonaLisa Touch and #IntimaLase. The #ThermiVa as radiofrequency energy that can also treat the outer Labia to reduce and tighten this area. It can increase blood flow, sensitivity , and orgasm. It can increase moisture and decrease stress urinary incontinence for many women.
#PRP ( Platelet Rich Plasma ) can be added to these procedures which may make a difference in the outcome. It can be injected into the vaginal mucosa to increase circulation and vaginal health, O-shot.PRP can also be used for a “G” Shot which is injected into the G-spot. Twice yearly or yearly follow up treatments are recommended to maintain vaginal health. If PRP is being added there is an additional $1000-1200 per treatment session.

However, surgery is the most common treatment. I perform a variety of treatments and surgeries to enhance, restore and rejuvenate the female genital region. This includes procedures to improve moisture, sensitivity and tighten the vaginal canal; which can enhance orgasm and restore or improve the appearance of the vulva. This includes the labia minora, labia majora, the clitoral region and the vestibule of the vagina. When necessary and capable, a vaginoplasty may be combined with a #Labiaplasty. Or, if the outer labia or labia majora may also be excessively large, uneven, or may be too small, the size may be increased with fat injections.

#VaginalRejuvenation or #Vaginoplasty involves reducing the lining of the vagina , removing excess and redundant mucosa decreasing the diameter of the canal. Additionally, the muscle ring, pubococcygeus, at the entrance or introitus can be tightened.  Vaginoplasty can also be carried down to the area below the vulva and above the anus, the perineum. This area may be irregular from childbirth or previous trauma. It can be corrected with excision and closure to further enhance the region.

Femi Lift is a magnificent tool for restoration and enhancement of female sexual function, for improvement with Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI), and for improved vaginal tone. PRP injections tend to improve SUI and to lead to new tissue growth by recruitment of the various cellular machinery that promote growth. Femi Lift is 93%+ effective and very reliable. The PRP injection procedure, known as the O-Shot, is probably about 70% effective in improving function. The two procedures are fairly complimentary and we do them often in tandem. Thank you for your question!

Some of the common procedures you can combine with vaginal tightening include: “O” Shot with PRP, labiaplasty and monsplas

The “O” Shot with PRP involves injecting platelet enriched plasma into the area in the vagina that increases sensation to help a woman achieve faster and stronger orgasms. Along with a vaginoplasty, a labiaplasty can be performed to alter the labia minora and majora. The external introitus of a vagina can be tightened to appear tighter on the outside to enhance a tightening procedure. If the mons area appears loose or puffy, then liposuction can be performed as a part of a monsplasty procedure.

Vaginal Rejuvenation combined with PRP

Vaginal rejuvenation can be performed with one of several systems, FemiLift, Selene Touch, Mona Lisa, etc., and is an excellent option to enhance the health and function of the vaginal tissue.  We have used PRP and other sources of growth factors, such as placenta, to enhance the outcomes.  At this time, there is not a well designed study to compare outcomes or other endpoints such as interval required for a maintenance treatment.  The addition of PRP to a vaginal rejuvenation adds essentially no risk so we routinely offer the option.  We typically will do the injection after the 2nd treatment of an initial 3 treatment package.

Great question.   The Femilit on its own is a fabulous procedure that really works to restore and improve vaginal and bladder tone as well as improve the integrity of the vaginal tissue thereby improving atrophy and dryness.   COmbining with PRP will further enhance results and improve sensual orgasms.
