This is an electrical device using bipolar energy (doesn't leave the uterus) to burn the cavity of the uterus to prevent heavy bleeding. It requires local anesthesia in the office, or general anesthesia in the operating room, but some type of anesthesia. It is very effective in the properly chosen patient who is done with child-bearing.

Novasure is a device that essentially burns out (ablates) the inner lining of the uterus (the endometrium). Endometrial ablation is a treatment for certain women who have heavy menstrual bleeding. Your gynecologist can help you determine if it's right for you.

What is novasure?

Novasure is a type of endometrial ablation.  This is a procedure to stop a woman's periods or heavy bleeding after she has finished having children.  This can be performed at the time of other gynecological procedures such as a vaginoplasty.  This should be covered by most insurance plans.  It can be done in the office if the surgeon has adequeate facilities.
