Hi, I have had a breast augmentation over 7 years ago. I’m extremely happy with my result, I have had no issues with them and I get them checked every year. The only thing I’ve noticed is that one of my scars did not end up in the breast fold, it’s actually sitting almost on my abdomen. My implants have not moved, they look and feel great! Can anyone advise why this has happened and if there is a way of rectifying it? Although I love my breast augmentation, I don’t particularly like the scars and would like them out of sight as much as possible. Thank you!
Answer: Scar Dear ilovechocolatecake, I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment, it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment or ask for a second opinion. Only after a thorough examination, you can get proper recommendations and advice. Answer: Scar migration IMF scar migration is not uncommon post augmentation. The incision is typically placed in the fold or to approximate the position of the newly planned fold. This will allow it to hide in the natural shadows of the fold. Over time, the implant will stretch and attenuate the lower pole tissue. This allows the implant to descend below the level of the fold (and the scar) . Subsequently it creates the illusion that the scar has risen when in actuality the implant has descended. Based on your photos, the scar is lower than the fold. If this has occurred over time it may be indicative of a contracture forcing the device upward. Ultimately, the device can be repositioned by removing the contracture. If present since the initial operation, it may indicate the need for further release to allow the implant to fall. As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

Answer: Low scar after augmentation Thanks for submitting your questions and photos! I’m sorry you’re displeased with scar placement after your augmentation. This could have been due to a variety of reasons, such as improper or inaccurate preop measuring/marking. Your natural breast fold could have been that low, but after augmentation, the implant is forcing the fold to sit a little higher on that side, causing the location of the scar to be lower than your original fold. Unfortunately, there’s not an easy way to hide the scar. You could lower the fold of that breast so the scar is hidden better, but this would cause asymmetry to your breasts as a whole, different nipple heights, etc. There are tattoo artists that specialize in blending scars, this may be a great option for you. Your plastic surgeon may have a tattoo artist they can refer you to. Good luck and thanks again for reaching out!

Answer: SCAR UNDER THE IMPLANTS Hello dear. The scar you mention, located lower than expected, is likely due to a lowering of the inframammary fold, either due to the surgical technique, the passage of time, or skin elasticity. Although your implants are fine, it's possible to correct the scar with minor surgery to reposition the fold or improve its appearance with other treatments. If you'd like to add any other procedure, you can write to us at 829-554-6062 for an evaluation.
