Does this split scar look like it is will heal naturally or should it be debrided? 3 weeks post-op. (Photos)

Question

I had breast reduction 3 weeks ago & scar has split. I'm concerned about infection & healing. There is small amount of smelly reddish weeping involved as well. Right breast healed completely-not T-zone. Thank you,

Thanks for your question. Congratulations on your surgery. I'm sorry that you are having issues, but I don't think this will result in anything bad. My philosophy is to leave these alone and just apply Polysporin. If the eschar is debrided it will leave a "raw" area that will likely bleed. The eschar acts as a bandaid. As the edges naturally separate, it will heal from the inside-out. Hang in there!

and the scabby tissue should slough and healing will start.  Avoid letting the wound dry out as it will delay healing.  And you will be surprised at how much better your scar ends up being from what you see today.
