While the CoolSculpting "Mini" is a device that was recently developed to target unwanted fat under the chin, there are also multiple other non-invasive and minimally invasive treatment options to treat this area that was once limited to surgical intervention. For permanently destroying fat cells under the chin, the options are liposuction, CoolSculpting and Kybella injection. Separately or in conjunction with these treatments, Infini radiofrequency microneedling, Ulthera micro-focused ultrasound, micro Botox injections and several resurfacing lasers are available to address jawline contouring, skin laxity and wrinkles on the neck.
CoolSculpting has been FDA-cleared for the treatment of fat in the submental area (double chin), which can provide you with a more contoured neck and improved chin profile. The CoolMini applicator is excellent for destroying unwanted fat under the chin in a noninvasive manner; however, it is very important that you obtain an evaluation from a physician to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure. There are a number of treatments for reducing fat under the chin (such as Kybella) and your provider will best be able to establish a personalized treatment plan.
Thank you for your question. CoolSculpting can be done under the chin using the CoolMini. If you are interested, I would recommend seeing a board certified plastic surgeon for a consultation. This way, you can explain your concerns, learn more about the procedure, and determine if you are a candidate. Regards,
The new Cool Mini works well in this area. Two sessions 4-6 weeks apart have given our patients excellent results. Kybella is an alternative. This does cause a fair degree of swelling for a few weeks whereas the Cool Mini does not in our experience cause this. Best Wishes, Maurice Vick MD
The Cool Mini applicator perfectly targets the submental fat - double chin area. An initial assessment will help you decide whether Coolsculpting would work for you.
Yes in fact it is now FDA approved to treat the fat directly beneath the chin with a small applicator the cool mini. See an experienced coolsculpting center run by a surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Good luck.

CoolSculpting is best utilized to treat the submental fat underneath your chin, commonly known as the “double chin”. To ensure you are a good candidate, schedule a consultation with an experienced CoolSculpting provider who can assess your concerned area and develop a customized treatment plan to achieve optimal results.
Yes, CoolSculpting can be used for this area.
The FDA has cleared a special CoolSculpting applicator call the CoolMini to
reduce submental fat — the fat that can cause a double chin. There are some
other recently released options for this specific area that are also quite
effective. KYBELLA injections reduce double chin fat by chemically dissolving
it, and some patients with sagging neck skin would be better served by getting
a skin tightening treatment such as PrecisionTX. Schedule a consultation with a
board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss the various options available to
improve your neck's appearance.
Thank you for your question, rdctw99. Kybella is the premier treatment for fat underneath the chin. It provides great results and a short recovery with little to no discomfort. Please consult with a board certified facial plastic surgeon as CoolSculpting is not approved for the face.
Yes, coolsculpting is marketed as an option for under the chin with the mini tool. We use coolsculpting in our office, but specifically for the chin area I like the results of Kybella to dissolve fat under the chin. I suggest a consultation to determine which is the better approach based on your objective and current skin laxity.
