When bladeless LASIK is done well: I allow my patients to resume full physical activity the day after LASIK. If the surgery has gone well there is no reason to restrict physical activity. The only restriction is not to move the flap, which means not to rub your eyes for two weeks. This opinion. Is based on 24 years with over 150,000 surgeries. So my opinion has a firm base. The physical activity restriction is a hold-over from the 70's when we were doing RK, was prior to laser surgery. The cornea was unstable for months. Rk was introduced by a Russian surgeon who did demonstrate that changing the shape of the cornea by placing radial cuts in the cornea. Dr. TROKEL in 1987 did prove that changing of the corneal shape by using a safe laser was the way to go. Congratulation Steven!
A week after LASIK is probably too early to ride a bike at a racing level. The epithelium has healed but it is fragile and minor trauma can displace your flap. After about a month the flap is pretty stable but you should always be careful. Remember, the flap lasts forever.
You can ride a bike one DAY after LASIK. Exertion at 100% is allowed from the first day on. The most important thing to know is that you must protect your eyes from trauma in the early post-LASIK period (not a bad idea to protect them forever!).
If your vision is shattered you need to see your doctor.Inflammation in the flap interface is a worrisome issue at this point with that story. Dryness can be problematic. But don't ask us....see the surgeon now or you could pay a very high price later in terms of vision loss or need for more s...
Dr. Dello Russo responds. Most doctors would advise PRK. Although I always favor LASIK, if the thickness is exact I would recommend PRK. I personally would not advise a Visian ICL, as much as I admire dr. Wachler.
It is possible to remove scars from the front part of the cornea (the clear window in the front of the eye) with a laser, but deeper scars require other techniques to remove.
