Retin-A on OLD (Non-acne) Scars? (photo)

HopperJ
I foolishly got a thigh lift about 18 years ago - which, btw, did absolutely nothing but make my legs worse - as well as given me ugly scars in the crease at my pelvic area. While most of it is pinkish, there is one section that is a darkish red-brown. Can I use the Retin-A (that is generally prescribed for the face) on that area? Will it help improve the scar? And will it hurt? As I know from past Retin-A use (on my face) that I had to stop because it burned so bad. Thank you.
