The decolletage of a woman's chest, will exhibit vertical skin creases in between brown freckles and discoloration from years of sun exposure. The ultraviolet A rays are more deeply penetrating than ultraviolet B and cause damage to the normal infrastructure of the skin. Solar elastosis is a condition in which the collagen and elastin of the dermis, underneath the epidermis, is damaged and clumps together. The overlying skin forms wrinkles which on the chest form these vertical and diagonal lines.
The best treatment for these lines are Fraxel Restore laser resurfacing. Chemical peels that might extend deeply enough may scar the skin below the neck. Superficial chemical peels may help decrease the dark spots from sun, but won't help enough with the skin creases. Carbon dioxide laser, whether traditional or fractitonal, is an ablative modality that can cause scarring of the skin below the neck.
Fraxel Dual 1927nm. wavelength can be done for one or two treatments to help eradicate the brown discoloration from sun damage, but the 1550nm. wavelength of the Fraxel Restore is a deeper penetrating laser energy that helps regenerate new collagen and helps eradicate the damaged collagen. A series of 5 or more treatments may be needed of the Fraxel Restore, done every 3 to 4 weeks. Remember to wear your sunscreen, otherwise your investment in trying to improve your photoaged skin of the chest is moot.
