I had a ventral incarcerated hernia repair with a panniculectomy. Doctor advised me not to do sit ups. Why is this?

No sit ups after hernia repair

Thank you for your question about your panniculectomy.

A hernia is caused by abdominal organs pushing through the muscle and ending up under the skin. Hernia repair includes repairing the muscles - and sit ups will damage the muscle repair. So no sit up at all until your surgeon gives you the ok and in some cases, it may be no sit-ups for a long, long time.

Always consult a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. Best wishes. Elizabeth Morgan MD
