Yes, this is a perfectly reasonable approach to treat skin discoloration. But you also should be using a bleaching agent (which lightens the darker areas) such as hydroquinone and/or kojic acid as well as tretinoin for best results. Medical strength apply at home skin preparations are highly effective and should be considered before going further to resurfacing procedures such as chemical peels and lasers.
Thank you for your question. The main chemicals used in a chemical peel are phenol, trichloroacetic acid and alphahydroxy acid and yes, chemical peel can address irregular pigmentation. Always consult with a board certified facial plastic surgeon.
