Help with laser tattoo removal signs of scarring? (Photos)

The "white scars" appear to actually be hypo-pigmentation, which is removal of your natural pigment along with the ink. This is a fairly common occurrence with darker skin. As it has only been a week, the most important thing you can do right now is wait at least 8 weeks until your next treatment as your pigment may come back. You will also need to let your provider know that this is happening so that they can adjust the settings of the laser.If the hypo-pigmentation remains, you can consult a dermatologist or plastic surgeon to discuss your options. This may be improved with medical tattooing and fraxel lasers. It will take a series of treatments both to remove the rest of your tattoo and re-pigment. See an expert for a formal evaluation. Best, Dr. Emer.

Thank you for your question. Yes, you can have laser tattoo removal to remove the remaining ink over scar tissue. I recommend having treatment with the Picosure laser as it is effective in removing 70-90% of a tattoo and works best on dark colors. Given your dark skin type, you are a high risk for scarring. Only a 1064 laser should be used for this. I do see hypopigmentation. Unfortunately, this is almost impossible to treat. I would discuss the treatment plan with your provider and consider a 2nd opinion. I try to not get any blistering after a tattoo removal, particularly dark skin types.

Thanks for your question. The hypopigmentation seen in your photo is not uncommon, especially in darker skinned individuals, during the course of tattoo removal. Most times the area will gradually repigment though it may take some time (months) and a little sun exposure to stimulate the melanocytes. I am not however encouraging you to sun this area during the course of your laser treatments, you should do the opposite. As for textural irregularities (raised skin, bumpiness) if this occurs it can later be smoothed out with a number of modalities (microneedling, resurfacing laser or utrasound, etc...). A week after treatment you are likely still very much in the healing phase. Keep a good ointment on it, perhaps a topical scar gel, and discuss your concerns with your treatment provider.
