Mammograms can detect ruptured implants, and MRI will confirm.  If you have saline implants, the breast will lose volume.  With Silicone, the gel is encased in the scar tissue. Regardless of the type of implant, the breast will feel soft and loss of shape.  Best wishes!

Implant Rupture

When saline implants rupture the breast decreases in size, firmness and changes shape.  Silicone implant ruptures are more difficult to detect.  Occasionally there will be a change n shape or feel.  It is often suspected on mammogram and confirmed by MRI.

Hi Paul Jones. Implant rupture is easy to detect if the filling agent is saline-the breast shrinks in size as the saline is absorbed by the body. The wall of scar tissue that normally forms around the implant, the capsule, will contain any silicone when the implants are silicone gel filled, so there is not a substantial loss of volume. In the event of a strong impact, it is possible for the capsule to tear, in which case a change in shape and volume may become evident. Mammograms and MRIs are indicated to help diagnose a rupture. Be sure to seek early evaluation by a board certified Plastic Surgeon in either event because removal and replacement gets more complicated if the capsule is torn and silicone extrudes. Best wishes,
