What should the gums look like under a temporary bridge one and a half days after surgery?

I had an abscess under the tooth that was pulled. I expected to see pink healthy gum when I checked today with a flashlight, instead it looked as if the abscess had spread. What would have to be done.

There may be some remaining infection after the removal of the tooth that is still unresolved.  If you are having some additional swelling, call the dentist.  Normally, this is really too early to expect things to look healthy.  You just had a surgery.  Takes more than 36 hours to heal.

After a tooth is taken out, especially when an abscess is involved, it takes several days if not weeks for the gums to look a normal healthy pink color.If it still looks bad, or if you notice pus coming out, or anything else 'bad' I would bring it to the dentist's attention as you may get a dry socket. Healing gums can look yellowish, grey, red and other colors before they're fully healed. There may also be orange, purple, or black if the dentist used stitches in the area.Sincerely,Dr. Reiser
