I had an abscess under the tooth that was pulled. I expected to see pink healthy gum when I checked today with a flashlight, instead it looked as if the abscess had spread. What would have to be done.

No. Bridges are made as a single piece for strength. Is this something about saving money? Would be harder and more costly for the dentist to try that so why would there be a lower fee?
Cuspids have big roots and are good anchors for bridges. If it is a virgin tooth (not already crowned or massively filled), I would be sure to get a consult about implants before you get it cut down for a bridge that involves using a full crown on it.
