Why is it needed to get many different surgeon opinions before rhinoplasty?

Many say you should get various surgeons opinions before rhinoplasty. Why is this needed? I would have thought any 1 qualified good surgeon would had been as good as any other in terms of what he can or can't do. What would it matter if you go to different surgeons if they are just going to more or less tell you the same thing on what they can/can't do?

Choosing a surgeon.

A second consult is never necessary but is often recommended. Rhinoplasty is probably the most difficult cosmetic surgical procedure because each step will make more than one change in the nose. You should be sure that the surgeon you use performs many rhinoplasties each year and can explain the procedure thoroughly so that you understand it. If your surgeon is comfortable performing a rhinoplasty that will become apparent during your consultation in the way he or she describes what he sees and what he would do to correct it to meet yourexpectations. Most importantly you must trust your surgeon and feel confident in his abilities.

Of all the cosmetic procedures Rhinoplasty requires the os knowledge, experience, skill and training. Some plastic surgeons do not offer rhinoplasty as a procedure that they will do.

Therefore, it is essential that you see many before and afters at your consultation, and find someone with a nose you like --and ask if it has been done and who did it.

Why is it needed to get many different surgeon opinions before rhinoplasty?

You do not always have to consult with many surgeons. If you schedule a consultation with a plastic surgeon and trust them and their staff, like their pre- and post-surgery photos and their advice resonates with you, it's OK to move forward. However, if you're not totally on the same page or if there are concerns that aren't addressed in your first consult then it is beneficial to seek a second, or third opinion. I hope this information is helpful.

If you are comfortable with the work of a single surgeon, I do not think it would harm you to examine other possibilities. This is really up to you. Find a plastic surgeon with ELITE credentials who performs hundreds of rhinoplasties and rhinoplasty revisions each year. Then look at the plastic surgeon's website before and after photo galleries to get a sense of who can deliver the results.
