Should I be worried. Has this skin graft failed? 2 weeks post breast reconstruction with mastectomy. (photos)

Question

I am post 2 weeks today of my preventive mastectomy w/reconstruction. I have nipple skin grafts where one looks like it is taking pretty well the other has a small spot where the skin stuck to the gauze the dr put on so it pulled. It looks better each day. After the bolster dressings came off they were both collapsed the right one protruded within a few days but the left has not. I’m just worrying myself to death about the left one. Should I just give it Time to heal and continue what I’m doing?

HiThanks for your question and sharing your photos.Viability of nipple grafts is hard to determine in pigmented skin but they do look ok to me. You should expect the epidermis to peel shortly while the dermis remains and takes on a light pink color. Pls keep grafts clean by washing with soap and water then patting dry and lightly applying antibiotic ointment or Vaseline. Pls follow up closely with your PS.I hope this helps.....

Thank you for the question.  Unfortunately, it is difficult to determine the viability of the left nipple skin graft.    Would talk with your plastic surgeon, have him/her evaluate it and make any treatment recommendations.   Best of luck on your recovery.
