Should I still be having daily intense involuntary abdominal contractions at 7+mos po for tt w/ muscle repair?
A few weeks po from tt w/ mr, I began getting brutally painful ab contractions overnight upon changing position while sleeping, or early morning as my mind/body began to wake and my legs moved. My abs contract so hard I've actually hurt my spine from my hips/butt lifting off the bed! It's like being hooked to an e-stim machine on HIGH! I was very fit pre-surg yet still can't plank now w/o significant pain. My ps says nothing surgical needed he's at a loss to explain. All day I'm fine. Just sore.

Dear RPMsMom, Thank you for your question! I agree, I cannot be certain why this is occurring. If patients have muscle spasms after abdominoplasties we typically recommend a muscle relaxant or benzodiazepine such as Valium. 5 mg before bed may be enough to minimize your discomfort and help you to sleep through the night. Good luck!
It sounds like the nerve to the abdominal muscles is irritated for some reason.I'm not sure why this is happening either, but a muscle relaxant before bed may be helpful to try. Most likely as the healing progresses the symptoms will go away.
