Will having a fatty liver prevent me from having gastric bypass surgery?

I have been diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver & am also waiting for approval from the surgeon for gastric bypass surgery. I was just wondering if this diagnosis will prevent me from having it. 43 years old, BMI: 45

no. gastric bypass should reverse 90% of the fatty change in your liver. if anything this is even more reason to proceed with gastric bypass

Almost every obese patient that has an ultrasound done is found to have fatty liver disease. If you are overweight, your liver is going to be filled with fat. As long as you don't have severe cirrhosis from it, you would still be a candidate for weight loss surgery. Fatty liver is basically an expected finding on your ultrasound.

Hello, I hope you are well. A fatty liver would most definitey NOT prevent you from getting bariatric surgery. In fact, most patients who undergo bariatric surgery have fatty liver. It is also one of the "fixes" that this procedure offers as non acoholic fatty liver and steatosis are treated with weight loss.
