Why does my face turn bright red, feel like it's burning, and peel after using Tretinoin or Clindamycin? (Photo)

I use Tretinoin Cream (.025%) at night and Clindamycin Phosphate Lotion (1%) in the morning for acne. I wash my face first and then apply, but immediately after, my face turns bright red, burns, and then peels almost like a sunburn. I've been using it for a week and the burning gets worse the more I use it. Should I put more time between washing my face and using them?

Hello and thank you for your question and photo. Both tretinoin cream and clindamycin lotion have risks for causing burning sensation and dryness. I recommend using a gentle cleanser and moisturizer in addition to the medications. I also recommend a consultation with a board certified dermatologist for evaluation of your skin and discussion of appropriate treatment. Best of luck.
