Microdermabrasion deep cleans but does not shrink pores. This helps prevent acne breakouts and keeps the skin more healthy.  On the other hand, Dermabrasion performed by a physician, TCA peels like the Obagi Blue peel, and lasers like the Sciton SkinTyte or BBL "forever young"and other IPL lasers do shrink pore size. Microdermabrasion is a wonderful treatment for skin refreshing and brightening and as a good adjunct to superficial chemical peels and laser resurfacing. It is a superficial exfoliative treatment that removes in the range of less than 5 or 6 microns of epithelium, the outermost layer of the skin. Because of its superficial effect, it will not change skin characteristics that have a deeper profile in the skin like pore size.
