Can Spreader Grafts be Removed???

With all respect, you need to seek psychiatric help as soon as possible -- feeling suicidal is of major concern.  Once you are stable from a mental standpoint, visit with a plastic or facial plastic surgeon to review your concerns. An in person exam can help to establish some (realistic) goals for surgery and a realistic outcome.  Keep in mind that your surgeon may have placed the grafts there for a good reason (like helping you breathe or stabilizing the nasal complex), so removing them may require other maneuvers to keep the function of your nose preserved.  I wish you well!  

From your description it doesn’t sound like the spreader grafts are the issue. You need to be seen by an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon to determine what is wrong and how to correct it

If you are serious about feeling suicidal, you need to seek help by right away!!!! This is a simple problem that can be addressed with surgery!!!!!

Hi Chl0eM,Thanks for your question.You should see a specialist in revision rhinoplasty to determine what could be done to improve your situation.However, you may have to wait until you are one year postop to have a safe and successful revision surgery. In the meantime, I encourage you to find people in your life or a professional who can support you and help you gain perspective while you wait.  Revision rates for rhinoplasty can be as high as 30-50%.  That means there are a lot of patients in the same boat as you.  Spreader grafts can be removed as long as this doesn't worsen your breathing.  You can also rebuild the bridge to get a better profile and make the nose look more narrow from the front.  Over-resection of the hump tends to widen the look of the nose.  Reversing this actually can make the nose look better.Be patient because you will be ok!Have faith in this.  It was good that you reached out to us here at RealSelf; now reach out to those in your life you trust.Good luck,Dr. Shah

PLEASE seek medical/psychologic help. Yes grafts can be removed, but revision surgery could be indicated. 

The first thing you should do is speak to someone about how you are feeling. When you use the word suicidal, it is really serious and you should talk to a professional immediately. There are always options in regards to fixing a nose, but you need to be in a good state of mind.

It is possible to remove a spreader graft. If it is removed it is possible that other revision maneuvers will also be required.Get another opinion.All the best,Talmage Raine MD FACS

 Hi, I have performed and taught Rhinoplasty for over 30 years.  Spreader grafts are placed between the septal cartilage in the midline of the nose and the tip cartilages.  This can and does increase the fullness and width of the nasal tip.  While it makes little sense to remove the rest of the cartilage spreader graft, that portion that makes the tip wider can certainly be trimmed through a closed Rhinoplasty approach.Hope this helps.
