I checked my hemoglobin level last week and it was at 10.7 I have breast augmentation scheduled in 3 weeks with doctor Mel Ortega. I am taking iron pill and multivitamin as well as a Spinach and protein diet. What are the odds that I'll have to reschedule ? I've always been anemic due to heavy menstrual so 10.7 was actually great to me. I was always at about 7-8. -Mom of 3

Answer: Anemia in breast augmentation If breast augmentation is done correctly there is practically no blood loss. I would not be concerned with a hemoglobin level above 9. Good luck with surgery and be sure to check with your surgeon about their lower limit for hemoglobin levels.

Answer: Anemia and Breast Augmentation Breast Augmentation is an elective surgery. You should have surgery when you are optimized for the procedure. Even though it is a low risk of bleeding during or after surgery if done right, a hematoma is possible and can put you in an even more compromised position. Proper level of hemoglobin is important in carrying oxygen to the tissues and helps healing. I like my patients to have a hemoglobin close to 11.5-12. Unfortunately we hear about to many complications after elective surgery cause corners are cut. Its your health and well been make sure you do the right thing. In most cases people get away with it but it takes that one time to have a problem. Consult with your surgeon and see if you would benefit in seeing a hematologist to help raise your hemoglobin level.Good luck!
