Why are many surgeons against aesthetic canthoplasty? My experience was amazing. (Photo)

My eyes looked a little sad, anonymous before. Now they look sexy and exotic (and natural), even if the change was quite dramatic. Why should doctors often advice against a canthoplasty for aesthetic purposes?

Aesthetic Canthoplasty

Some plastic surgeons who are not as comfortable with eyelid and orbital anatomy may discourage canthoplasty given the risk of undesired change in eye shape and appearance, but oculoplastic surgeons spens many years specializing in the delicate anatomy of the eyelids and successfully combine canthoplasties with aesthetic procedures. Congratulations on the beautiful result!

Aesthetic Canthoplasty

Aesthetic canthoplasty is a robust cosmetic technique when performed by an experienced eyelid surgeon.  Minimally invasive approaches can be challenging for the surgeon who performs this surgery infrequently.  This may be why you were initially discouraged.  This is a procedure best handled by an oculoplastic surgeon.  Congrats on a beautiful result!

Canthoplasty vs canthopexy

Although the procedure can be simple for the experienced surgeon, it has risks. It needs to be done with minimal invasive techniques to avoid complications. Best done by an oculoplastic surgeon. That differs from canthopexy which is more simple and can be performed more easily.
