LBL-severe skin breakdown. What kind of surgery will be needed to repair this? Why does this happen? What did I do wrong?(photo)

I'm 8 weeks out from a LBL, BL and Extended Arm lift. I had some tiny areas of separation on some of the LBL incisions at week 2. I was a little over 3 weeks out when I returned home. The incisions started getting worse at 5 weeks. Now, at 8 weeks out, I have BIG open wounds on my buttocks that I'm treating with the wet/dry method as instructed by my surgeon. I'm in touch with him via phone and text every few days updating him and sending pictures. I'm 7 hours away from my surgeon.

Wound problems

Thank you for your question and pictures.  I agree that this is quite a wound problem.  With W/D dressings alone, I think this could take months to close.  A wound VAC, hyperbaric oxygen and occasional wound debridement would certainly speed up the process.  There should be some kind of wound care center near where you live that can help.

Thank you for sending your question and photo.  I am sorry you are experiencing open wounds after your lateral thigh lift. Continue close communication with your Surgeon for wound care recommendation.  Follow his advise, and continue close follow up. You will need to be examined by your surgeon or a local wound care clinic weekly. Best wishes.

Major wound problem after lower body lift.

Thank you for asking about your wound after lower body lift surgery.

  • I am very, very sorry this has happened to you. This is a large and serious wound.
  • You need to be in the care of a surgeon and/or medical wound clinic.
  • The most recent photo suggests the wound goes deeper than it looks and needs debridement.
  • A wound vac will speed your healing -
  • You also need nutritional support.
  • Although you might get lucky with dressing changes alone, it is a difficult area to care for and will take another 3 months at least to heal without specialty care - or may not heal.
  • Please have your regular doctor refer you to a wound clinic ideally run by a surgeon -
  • Or go to your nearest emergency room for appropriate referral.
Always see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.
Hope you find this information helpful. Best wishes

Sorry for the wound complications. But large surgeries have higher risks of serious complications. I might recommend a wound VAC system>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
