I've read that it is due to stress or an autoimmune disease. I'm not particularly stressed. I live a great life. I was however living in indonesia for work when this began in october 2017 and its progressively gotten worse. Could I have contracted something there? I feel completely fine. Who do I turn to for a proper diagnosis and treatment?

Alopecia barbae (also called alopecia areata of the beard) is an autoimmune disease. The optimal initial treatment often includes steroid injections and topical steroids periodically. Close follow up with a dermatologist is advised. Individuals with alopecia areata of the beard have an increased risk of scalp alopecia areata and nearly one-half develop some degree of hair loss on the scalp over time. Blood tests are important for thyroid, B12 and other parameters. Please see a dermatologist for guidance.

alopecia barbae is a variant of alopecia areata on the beard or face. The treatment of alopecia barbae follows the same course as the treatment of alopecia areta and treatments should be administered by a dermatologist and usually involved steroids to the impacted area
