Brief nosebleed after rhinoplasty, will this compromise my final results?

My Rhinoplasty was 5 days ago. I was sleeping and I think I was in such a deep sleep that I closed my mouth and tried to inhale through my nose and I was awoken by the inability to breathe but I quickly realized there was also blood dripping from my nose on one side. This lasted for under a minute but I am worried that it will compromise my rhinoplasty results. What do you think??

A brief nosebleed is quite common after a rhinoplasty. It will not compromise the healing process and the results of your rhinoplasty based on your description of the severity of the bleeding. I would advice telling your doctor just to be safe.

I would have to examine you to be sure, but I think is extremely unlikely that a brief nosebleed will have any effect on your rhinoplasty. Just mention it to your surgeon at your next visit.

As long as this doesn't continue, there is a low likelihood the bleeding will contribute to an adverse outcome. Your surgeon likely recommended some measures to counteract this - make sure you follow their instructions carefully. Happy healing.

Dear sfvalleygal,

brief nosebleed shouldn't have negative effect on your rhinoplasty. A lot of patients complain about nosebleed after rhinoplasty. However, if you are concerned, you can consult your plastic surgeon.

Bleeding After Rhinoplasty

Thank you for your question.  Bleeding after rhinoplasty is fairly common immediately after surgery.  You can also have increased bleeding at nighttime, particularly if the air (and therefore, the healing lining inside your nose) is dry due to air conditioning/heat.  Using some ointment inside your nostrils at nighttime may help.  The likelihood of a brief nosebleed compromising your rhinoplasty results is probably nil but certainly discuss your concerns with your surgeon when you see him/her again.   Hope that helps, best of luck!

Hello and thank you for your question.  A brief nosebleed should not affect the result of the rhinoplasty.

If you have recurrent or prolonged nosebleeds or other ongoing concerns, you should arrange to see your surgeon.
