What is coolsculpting and how does it work?

We have been doing Coolsculpting in our clinic for almost two years and our patients probably rate it with over a 90% "happiness" factor.  The key is patient selection for this form of non invasive fat reduction that works by selectively freezing the fat and not the skin.  The procedure is for pinchable fat in patients that have relatively good skin quality. If patients have poor skin quality with stretch marks and stretched out abdominal muscles, then this technique will not improve those issues. The goal is for fat reduction.  It is probably around a 25% fat reduction with one applicator and the process for fat resorption takes a few months.  It is permanent fat reduction but one applicator doesn't do the job.  It takes a regional treatment plan. But during these treatments patients fall asleep, read their emails or watch a movie.

We have seen some amazing results in realistic patients that are committed.  We also have a few patients that are better surgical candidates but for whatever reason they are unwilling or unable to have surgery. These patients can still have fat reduction but their skin quality is poor.  But they understand the limitations prior to treatment. We are looking into adding a body skin tightening device after treatment with coolsculpting to see if we can improve the result even more. This radiofrequency device may also be able able to smooth out smaller fatty areas that are not treatable by coolsculpting or may have some ability to improve cellulite!  We will have updates to our website over the late summer months!

Coolsculpting is a non-invasive way to permanently freeze the fat in a given area.  It can take an hour to treat each area and can be used on the abdomen, flanks, double-chin area and others.  Please consult an expert.  Best, Dr. Green

Many patients call the office asking just this question. They want to know what all of the direct to consumer marketing that shows amazing results with the fat freezing treatments is all about. First it is important to know that the technique has been used for years and that the company Zeltiq has recorded millions of treatments. The process works by lowering the temperature of the fat in the layer under your skin to the point where it induces a process whereby the fat undergoes a process called apoptosis. This means that 20% of the fat cells are removed from the body in the area treated by the bodies own mechanism and process. These fat cells do not return. The technique works best in patients who have a mild to moderate amount of fat. In patients who have a severe amount of fat with stretched out skin results may be seen however, these patients should be counseled that the results may not achieve the patients goals. Discussions about possible tummy tuck of abdominoplasty in these patients may be helpful in achieving the results the patient is looking for.

coolsculpting is a non invasive way that uses cooling to kill fat. I find that sculpsure, which uses laser heat is better as it has less downtime.  Please see an expert. Best, Dr. Emer.

The CoolSculpting Treatment

{{ voteCount >= 0 ? '+' + (voteCount + 1) : (voteCount + 1) }}

CoolSculpting is an FDA-cleared, non-surgical fat reduction treatment that uses a process known as cryolipolysis to safely target unwanted fat cells. Cryolipolysis works by cooling a specific area (without damaging the skin) and lowering the temperature of the subcutaneous fat cells to the point where apoptosis, or normal and controlled cell death, happens naturally. These dead fat cells are then removed via the body’s lymphatic system in a gradual manner, which is why it can take a few months for the full effects of any treatment to become apparent; however, these dead fat cells are permanently eliminated and do not return.

Some of the primary reasons consumers choose CoolSculpting are because it is non-invasive, results in minimal downtime, and the fat cells it destroys are gone for good. The results of your CoolSculpting treatments, if combined with exercise and a proper diet, should last for a significant period of time, and we have seen promising long-term results with our patients. Please note that while CoolSculpting is safe, FDA approved, and one of the best options for non-surgical body sculpting, side effects do exist and should be discussed with your physician prior to any procedure being performed.

CoolSculpting® is a non-invasive, no down time procedure for removing your body fat. The technique employs cold to permanently destroy fat cells thereby enhancing the shape of your body.

CoolSculpting® was developed by Harvard scientists and is now an FDA approved unique, patented, clinically proven procedure that works by freezing your fat cells without damaging your skin. Traditional liposuction is an invasive surgical procedure that can leaves scars which are embarrassing to explain, especially for men.  CoolSculpting® is a great alternative to liposuction for those areas where the fat just won’t go away.

CoolSculpting® clinical studies have shown an average fat reduction from 20% - 25% in the treated areas after one visit within two to four months. Only one treatment is required for lasting results. If needed, CoolSculpting® can be repeated as soon as 6-8 weeks after your initial treatment.

CoolSculpting can treat your double chin, belly pouch, back fat, love handles, man-boobs, hips, inner and outer thighs and fat above your knees.  CoolSculpting® works simply by freezing away your excess fat.

You can return to your normal routine immediately.

Thank you for your question. CoolSculpting by Zeltiq is a non-surgical procedure that uses cooling to eliminate fat cells. Because your fat cells are most sensitive to cold, the system can eliminate up to 25% of fat cells each treatment round. These fat cells are then metabolized by your body and eliminated permanently. If you would like more information or are interested in moving forward with this procedure, I would recommend seeing a board certified plastic surgeon for a consultation. This way, you cane explain your concerns, learn more about the procedure, and determine if you are a candidate. An in-person assessment is always best. Regards,

CoolSculpting Is Nonsurgical Fat Reduction

{{ voteCount >= 0 ? '+' + (voteCount + 1) : (voteCount + 1) }}
CoolSculpting is one of the leading nonsurgical fat reduction treatments available. It is approved by the FDA, and it is the only treatment that uses a patented cooling process called cryolipolysis to "freeze" fat cells. Because fat cells are more vulnerable to cold than other tissue in the body, CoolSculpting is able to target them without damaging the skin or surrounding tissue. The damaged fat cells are gradually flushed from the body. I hope this is a helpful explanation.

As you know seek information on the Cool Sculpt website from Zeltiq and then if you are a potential candidate seek a consultation near home with a certified provider in your area. I would recommend a Plastic Surgeon's office who provides this as an option. It's great for healthy height and weight clients who have problem areas that are stubborn. The cooling decreases the areas in which it can treat on average about 22%.

Hello Beachie Beauty,

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive treatment option to reduce fat in targeted areas with the use of cooling device to freeze fat cells. The frozen fat cells eventually die and are naturally removed by your body.

Some key points to know about CoolSculpting include:
1. Only one area can be targeted per treatment.
2. Treatment session take close to one hour.
3. Areas of treatment usually require 2-4 treatments.
4. No anesthesia.
5. FDA-approved

Schedule a consultation to see if you are a candidate. If so, enjoy the results.
