How is the breast reconstructive surgery performed after a mastectomy?

Mastectomy vs augmentation
the two surgeries are completely different in their recovery time. Since the mastectomy involves removing the breast, the breast skin is numb, there is more pain, and there are drains. For mastectomy, most surgeons place tissue expanders for the reconstruction, not implants (although implants can now be placed at the time of mastectomy too if the surgeon does direct to implant recon). Finally, most surgeons remove the nipple and areola in mastectomy, although now a new operation called nipple sparing mastectomy makes the result LOOK more like an Aug than a traditional mastectomy.
