Thank you for your question. Abdominoplasty will enhance your body contour by making your abdomen firmer and flatter. You may find that you feel more comfortable in your clothing and are more confident about your appearance. The incisions from the procedure will heal and fade over time. It is important to realize, however, that the incision lines will be permanently visible. In some instances, they will eventually be only faint lines. Certain individuals may have incision lines that are more noticeable. Fortunately, the incisions for your abdominoplasty are usually in locations concealed by most bathing suits and undergarments. Unless you gain or lose a significant amount of weight or become pregnant, your abdomen should remain firmer and flatter for many years. However, gravity and the effects of aging will eventually take their toll. If, after a period of years, you again become dissatisfied with the appearance of your abdomen, you may choose to undergo a second procedure to restore a more youthful body contour. Best of luck!

The results of a tummy tuck are permanent with proper diet and exercise. However, significant weight loss or gain, pregnancy and age may adversely effect your surgical results. After several years, a second tummy tuck can be performed to restore original results.

There are three things addressed in an abdominoplasty procedure: removal of excess skin, tightening of stretched muscles and removal of fat. You should have a nice fat tummy again. However, how you maintain it is up to you. Lifestyle, diet and exercise is up to the patient. If you live a healthy life, then you should enjoy your results for many, many years!

Thank you for your question. Tummy tuck is one of the most rewarding procedures. It is the procedure choice for women who completed their family or have lost significant weight. The results can be maintained for the rest of your life unless you gain weigh or get pregnant. Generally speaking, you should not get beck to the pre surgery look.

How Long Does a Tummy Tuck Last?

happily tummy tucks last a very long time for most.   As long as you do not have major body changes, such as large weight shifts or pregnancy  the results of a tummy tuck are long lasting.  Revisions are relatively infrequent.

Dear tummy tuck candidate,

It is not a simple answer.  It all depends on your life style and the quality of your surgeons work. Tummy tuck should last for many years even many decades. However, if you are sun worshiper , than skin elasticity will not  last that long,. If you gain and lose significant amount of weight , the muscles and skin will relax and become redundent much faster. If you become pregnant and carrie the baby to term, the muscles and skin will strech more or less. If you do not follow your surgeons recommendation to avoid excercise and heavy lifting for at least 6 weeks, you might loosen up the muscles.   Finally, if your surgeon is not tightening the muscles and skin adequetely or does not use permanent sutures for the muscles tightening , the result will not last that long.  In summery, look for an experienced board certified plastic surgeon, live a healthy life style and use common sense.

Tummy Tuck results and Longevity

Although the improvement one sees with a tummy tuck will last for decades, I counsel my patients that their results will continue to age as they, themselves, do.  It still pays to exercise and watch one's weight after the procedure.  I would suggest having the tummy  tuck after you have completed your family as a subsequent pregnancy can compromise the results.  The majority of patients have one tummy tuck in their lifetimes. However, about 5%  may consider a further tummy tuck revision in 10 or more year.

Provided one does not get pregnant again and keeps a reasnable weight, the results of a tummy tuck can last for the rest of your life. There may be some mild loose skin that may develop as you age but it will never be as significant as what was originally removed. You biggest concern about long-term preservation of your tummy tuck is to keep your weight stable otherwise you will thicken up your abdominal and waistline areas.
