It is very common to have bruising and swelling for weeks to months after liposuction procedures. What is most important is that you follow your surgeons post operative instructions and continue compression. Many surgeons do not recognize or properly manage post-operative serums. I believe the incidence of seroma especially after Vaser (thermal and mechanical trauma) is 100%. Lymphatic massage is not effective and possibly harmful by aggravating inflammation. The drainage technique is highly specialized and must be done daily for the first week along with foam compression and needle aspiration of seroma pocket. I also use corticosteroids and diuretics to control post-operative inflammation and edema. Post-operative care of lipocontouring is essential to the final cosmetic outcome. Pre-op massage is useless.
