I am coming to the end of my Invisalign treatment. Prior to starting treatment I had a chip in one of my top front teeth. Now that my teeth have been straightened and leveled with Invisalign the chip is very noticeable. I would like to have this chip fixed prior to having retainers made. How could this be done so that my retainers will still fit with the bonding in place? My dentist has advised that treatment cost includes removable tray retainers, not fixed retainers which makes it difficult.
Answer: #Invisalign retainers #DrSoftTouch Hello there,I would recommend composite bonding or a porcelain veneer to fix your chipped tooth. Composite bonding would improve the shape of your front tooth and would be the least expensive fix. However, bonding should always be thought of as a temporary fix. After fixing your tooth, your dentist will take impressions for your retainers. Good luck and I hope this helps. CONTACT NOW Answer: Bonding and Retention after Invisalign Thank you for your inquiry. We would recommend you to have your chip fixed prior to any retainers being made. Invisalign typically offers clear essix retainers (looks just like Invisalign trays but a bit thicker) after treatment is completed, so you'll have to have new impressions taken after your restorations are completed for these perfectly fitting retainers to be made. You can probably get away with not taking impressions if just your incisal edges are treated for bonding if you get a hawley retainers (acrylic retainer with metal bar) or lingual retainer made, but a clear essix retainer is typically always the most recommended for the most efficient retention. However, keep in mind that over time the plastic of the clear essix retainer can loosen over time so it's recommended you get a new set made every so often to maintain the strength and therefore effective retention into the future. We hope this helps and we wish you all the best!

Answer: Fix chip prior to retainers Typically once an orthodontic treatment is completed any chips, etc are restored and fixed prior to making of any retainers. Please discuss your concern with your provider and he/she should be able to fix the concern prior to making your retainers. All the best,

Answer: It is certainly possible to correct Hi spm1234,Your retainers will be custom made to your teeth. They can be constructed based on the moulds taken at the start of treatment and your final aligner, but if changes are made, new moulds can be taken for the retainers. You should discuss this with your Invisalign provider prior to the final visit for retainers, as once the retainers are ordered or made, they cannot be changed. If your dentist/orthodontist has given a quote with an all inclusive cost for retainers, this may be for removable aligners based on initial impression only as they will incur extra costs and time to retake impressions and resend for scanning, or to take new intraoral scans. To summarise, it is certainly possible to get your retainers to fit over a bonding, but you need to discuss with your provider if this will incur additional cost to you. You should also discuss fixed retainers as if this is a suitable option for you, it may be more effective and may only be a minimal extra fee.
