Identifying the type of lesion you have via photograph is difficult because a dermatologist needs to feel and look at the lesion under higher magnification with an instrument called a dermatoscope. If your lesion has any abnormalities, then a biopsy should be performed, and the tissue will be sent to a lab for evaluation. Also, other types of lesions may mimic moles, which makes assessing your lesion from your photo even more challenging.
