Should I be worried about an oozing pinhole on my mastectomy scar line 3 months after surgery? (Photo)

Had double mastectomy with reconstruction about three months ago. Discovered a hole on my right breast today where my Ariola/nipple were tattooed on my scar line. Not only is the hole oozing a thick pale yellow substance, it is also allowing air in between my implant and my breast tissue. So if I slightly press on my breast, air will escape through the tiny pinhole. Is this normal? Is this a sign of more things to come?

Thank you for your question.  Any sort of wound separation (dehiscence) after surgery is not normal.  You should make an appointment to see your plastic surgeon immediately.  The wound opening can lead to infection, which may require your implant to be removed.  Wound complications are more common in the immediate post-operative period.  However, they can occur at any time.  In breast reconstruction patients, radiation, smoking, and uncontrolled medical conditions may increase the likelihood of wound complications.Good Day,Nicholas Jones, MD
