Trying to conceive and tretinoin.

Question

Hello, my husband and I have recently starting trying to conceive. He is 37 and I am 36. My question is since actually getting pregnant is such an unpredictable time frame ( immediately, 6 months, 1 year, etc...). Is it safe to stay on a topical tretinoin as long as you stop immediately when you find out you have actually conceived?

If one of my patients presented with the same question this would be my advice: If you are actively trying to conceive, I would immediately stop use of your topical tretinoin. I also tell my patients to even avoid over the counter retinoids when trying to conceive. While the risk to the fetus is relatively low, I would definitely suggest erring on the side of caution.
