Breasts Can Take 2-3 Months To Soften After Augmentation

Thank you for your email. Your experience sounds normal for 6 weeks postop breast augmentation. It is a good sign that the breasts soften and you feel more comfortable after massage.

Of course you should meet with your surgeon and express your concerns so that Dr. may examine you and hopefully reassure you. If there is a concern, that is if there is tightening of the implant your surgeon will want to know this right away.

It is however common for breasts to continue to soften and adjust their position for the first 3 months after breast augmentation and this is particularly true if you have had a sub-muscular breast augmentation.

Again be certain to see your surgeon for an examination to make certain that you are healing normally.

Firm breasts after surgery

You have the softest feeling implants or the silicone implants in place. This is a very early post operative period for you. continue with the aggressive massage and they should improve.

Massaging But Still Feeling Firmness

You are still in the early healing period. Your #healing will continue for 2-3 months for the early period. This includes some swelling, bruising, malposition, color differences. Sensation may also be abnormal and scars will be evolve. Your doctor may require you to move or #massage the #implants within the breast pockets during the postoperative period. Textured implants do not require breast massage. You will be informed about this at your post-operative visit.

If my patients have concerns that their healing or pain are unusual, it is important for them to call the office and discuss these concerns or come in to be examined.

Softening of the breast after surgery

Thank you for your question. Congrats on the surgery. It may take months for the breasts to soften, and they may never soften to the pre-surgical state. In addition, the greater the implant to breast tissue ratio, the more the implant will affect the longterm firmness (or softness) of the breast. I would exercise patience and see how things change with every few weeks that pass by.

Firmness and Soreness After Breast Augmentation

Some discomfort and firmness is common after surgery. However, if you are concerned, please see your surgeon for their advice. It’s good that you're still wearing your sports bra, as this will help with your recovery.

Firm Breasts after Breast Augmentation

After breast augmentation, the breasts WILL feel tight and firm. 6 weeks is still relatively early. As your breast tissue, skin, and muscles stretch, the implants and breasts will start feeling softer. This can take months.

Pain may be due to muscle spasms in the chest muscles (pectoralis muscles). Massage can certainly relax the chest muscles and help with pain. This may be why the breasts feel soft after massaging.

If you still have concerns, you should follow up with your plastic surgeon.

Thanks for your question. Best of Luck!

Six weeks post-op BAM

At six weeks post-op from an augmentation, you are still healing and the breasts are probably still swollen.

Breasts Feel Firm

{{ voteCount >= 0 ? '+' + (voteCount + 1) : (voteCount + 1) }}

I don't think this can be answered without an exam by your surgeon. What you think is firm may not be considered so by the surgeon. I have no explanation why massaging would quickly soften the implants which would soon become firm again. This is not behavior of a capsular contracture if that is your worry.

Thanks for your question, best wishes.

Sounds normal

This is quite normal at 6 weeks, and could be caused by swelling or tight tissues. The swelling will eventually go away, and your tissues will expand. These will make your breasts feel softer and more natural. Wait about 4 months for this to happen.
