What's the advantages and disadvantages of absorbable threads VS non absorbable threads?

With the PDO threads (Nova) these generally last from 3 months to 5 months for the smaller ones and longer for the larger ones. The silhouette sutures have cones, are bidirectional and last up to 18 months. They cause a collagen, and foreign body reaction and the threads become encapsulated with a collagen tubule which more or less acts a a suspension in your tissue. 
The older nonabsorbable sutures did work but as the tissue gets thinner with age the threads can occasionally be seen with facial movements. This is why most doctors have gone to the absorbable sutures.
