I have concerns about retinol creams but is it true it should be part of 20yr olds skin care routines?

So I hear it's a good idea to use retinol creams but that you can't wax after you start using them but what about threading or hair removal creams are those okay? I also wonder can I use something else instead like vitamin C moisturizer or does vitamin C moisturizer require no waxing when you start using as well? If you could also tell me why waxing is no good when using those kinds of creams i'd really appreciate it.

You can wax while on retinoids or retinols. However, your skin is most definitely going to be sensitive, and you may have accentuated peeling or even burning. I would strongly advise to consider threading or if you will going to wax, to go to a place that has wax made for sensitive skin and for patients on retinA/retinols. I usually recommend combining your retinA/retinol with a good moisturizer such as Cerave.

Thanks for your question.  I do believe in the benefits of retin-a for many adults with acne, or just sun damage.  The creams come in several different strengths, so ask your dermatologist which might be right for you.  Most of my patients stop their retin-a a few days before waxing to avoid irritation.  Hope this helps!
