I would get them out soon. I remove metal (amalgam) fillings everyday and greater than 95 percent of them have recurrent cavities if they are over ten years old. Depending on the size of the filling, they can be replaced with composite fillings or all porcelain restorations. Either will be bonded to your tooth and be a much better alternative than the amalgam that you currently have.
The best choice is to find a dentist who uses CEREC technology to restore teeth with ceramic. It will cost more than composites but give much better long term service and fewer problems with recurrent decay than composite restorations. Composites are less expensive and you can expect 8-10 year life.
