There are many factors that go into the pricing of a surgery. Some are anesthesia costs, facility charges, and surgeon fees. Part of the determination of these fees is how long the procedure will take to be performed. You are essentially "renting" the operating room, staff and equipment for a certain amount of time. In addition, anesthesia charges are based on time. Also know that all surgeries aren't apples to apples. It's in the details of the surgeon's techniques that can make an outcome truly optimal.
Approximate Costs of a Mommy Makeover or Multiple Procedures
The Mommy Makeover is a combination of procedures to bring a woman’s body back to the way she looked prior to pregnancy. Most commonly some variation of a #TummyTuck and #BreastSurgery are performed. Additional procedures can include liposuction, umbilical hernia repair. The most common #breastprocedures include #mastopexy or #breastlift, #breastaugmentation, or #breastreduction.
The costs of a #Mommy Makeover will depend on several factors. Such include the geographic location, the skill and experience of the surgeon, and operating room and anesthesia fees. Also, such #combined operations are often performed with our Gynecology colleagues. Tubal ligation is a common post pregnancy procedure which is done at the time of many of the surgeries included with Mommy Makeovers. Therefore, if you require a gynecologic operation or study (laparoscopy) and are considering a plastic surgery procedure, discuss these issues with your doctor. Combining these procedures decreases anesthetics, costs, and recovery time. Most importantly, your procedures should be performed by a #PlasticSurgeon who is board-certified and has a great deal of experience specializing in cosmetic #surgery. You will then greatly improve your chances of getting the result you desire, and, without the need for a revision surgery. It is suggested that you look at before and after photos of the surgeons actual patients, and read patient reviews. Gathering all of this information will help you make a well-informed decision.
There are ranges of prices for these procedures, and they vary widely by geographic area, experience and expertise of the plastic surgeon, and other factors including the charges of the anesthesiologist and the operative facility. First, look at the itemized listing of services and fees associated side-by-side. It is possible that one plastic surgeon felt that silicone implants with a breast lift would address your issues best, but that the other plastic surgeon gave you the option of saline implants without a lift (definitely cheaper). One may have offered you a mini-tummy tuck and the other recommended a full tummy tuck. Also, the one with a lower set of fees may not have included the anesthesia costs or surgical facility cost added together. It is always wise to make sure the two different prices reflect equivalent services. Because these are cosmetic procedures, all plastic surgeons have different, but market-driven, fees. Best wishes with your decisions and for a beautiful result you love!
It is very common to see a large price range among surgeons for Mommy Makeover procedures. First and foremost, did both surgeons recommend the same procedures? If one surgeon recommended additional liposuction, for example, then that is one reason the prices are different. Another very common reason for difference in price is the surgeon's credentials - education, years in practice, level of expertise in the procedures, etc. Other things that factor into the cost are operating room and anesthesia fees. Ultimately, you should not make your decision on price alone. You should choose based on which surgeon you feel more comfortable with and who you think will give you the best results. Good luck!
Cost factors vary significantly for a number of good reasons: Prices vary greatly because the surgery itself encompasses a wide range of techniques that can be performed to different extents. My recommendation is to first find the most qualified surgeons where you want the surgery performed that are board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery you trust, then compare prices between them. See the below link on suggestions on how to find the most qualified plastic surgeon for your procedure. General Factors that influence the price of plastic surgery include: 1. Location - Will it be performed in a hospital with an overnight stay, an independent out- patient facility or a doctor’s office? Geographical location also has a significant influence. RealSelf has average charges for most areas of the USA. 2. Type of Anesthesia - local, IV sedation or General Anesthesia? Will a board certified anesthesiologist, nurse anesthetist, or an RN be used? 3. Experience and training of your surgeon. The best and longest trained is most often a plastic surgeon board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery 4. Length and Complexity of Surgery - how difficult will your surgery be and how long it will take, etc. Will other complementary procedures also be also performed during the same surgery?
The mommy makeover price gap; why such a large gap?
Thank you for your question. The mommy makeover can be a variety of different procedures, including a tummy tuck, liposuction, breast lift +/- implants and a few others…this may explain some differences in price. Also, price differs with location and from surgeon to surgeon. Based on over 7300 REALSELF reviews, the average price of a mommy makeover is $12350. You can certainly find many qualified excellent plastic surgeons offering more reasonable market value pricing compared to 24K. Do your research. Good luck!
Thank you for your question. There is no set pricing for plastic surgeons. Each Dr. has his own way of pricing based on how long the procedure will take and what exactly he will be doing, anesthesia and operating room also come into play as well. A mommy makeover for one surgeon may be a completely different thing to another surgeon. It is always good to see a few different board certified plastic surgeons before making a decision. Get all of your questions answered and then make your decision based on how comfortable you are with the surgeon.
Best of luck,
Dr. Hisham Seify
There are no set pricing guidelines in the world of cosmetic plastic surgery. You should choose your surgeon based on experience, reviews, before/after photos, board certification and most of all how comfortable you feel with that surgeon. If you like your surgeon for the lower price, don't worry why someone else is charging more.
Price Gaps between surgeons
Hi PinkAhboo,Thanks for your question. First you must be comparing apples to apples and oranges to oranges. A mommy makeover can be a lot of different things. Some people include liposculpting, others dont. Some have breast lift with implants while other just have breast implants. It sounds like you found a SAFE surgeon at a reasonable price based on the area. I am not sure what you mean golden standards, i.e hospital vs surgery center.... Not sure. Some surgeons take longer to operate than others therefore it may cost more as anesthesia costs will vary. Pick your surgeon based on their skill and not the price. Look at their work during the consultation and make sure that you see results that you could reasonably expect on your body. At the end of the day, It is your body and your health. Just like you have your favorite hairstylist that may charge more than supercuts. They both use the same scissors but one just uses them better and perhaps more safely is the best analogy that I have for you. Get several opinions and dont just base it on locations. If cost is an issue, some parts of the country charge a lot less for a range of procedures than here is Arizona, especially Scottsdale. Good Luck and Congratulations on your upcoming mommy makeover!
All the best,
