Gastric bypass surgery is performed laparoscopically through 6 tiny incisions in the upper abdomen about a quarter of an inch each.

Laparoscopic gastric bypass incisions are very small.  Usually, there are approximately 6 small incisions ranging from 5 mm to 12 mm incisions.  The location of the incisions is based on surgeons preference.
