Cracked tooth is dead - should it be removed for an implant?

DentaladviceJan 12, 2026

Heya I have gone to the dentist but want a second opinion on my tooth situation. I fell on my face and caused trauma to my front tooth. It was twisted back and broke inside the upper gum and I shoved it back in place but it never healed fully. My dentist recommends keeping the tooth even though it is a dead tooth. It causes me medium amount of pain and I cannot bite with it. I am seeing online it's recommended to not keep a dead tooth due to possible infection. He said a root canal will not be possible due to the fact the breakage did not end up healing after 9months and we didn't didn't really expect it to seeing as I am 30. I am curious why he would not say to get an implant with the tooth having a negative effect on my daily life. Thoughts?
