Question

Next week I'll be getting my upper front left tooth #9 extracted. Same crown for over 20 yrs due to a bike accident when I was a kid. Had root canal yrs ago then about 5 yrs ago had apical surgery and recently my crowned loosened. My dental surgery will be in 2 phases: 1- extraction of tooth w/ bone grafting, wear a flipper, wait 4-5 months for healing. 2-Dental Implant Metal Post surgery, a few more months of healing before given the green light to get final crown. Will I be "toothless"?

At no point should you have to be toothless after your tooth is extracted. 
You have a high smile line and it is absolutely critical that adequate steps will be followed to preserve both the hard and soft tissue in this area. You didn't mention why your tooth needs to be extracted. Why isn't the implant being placed immediately when the tooth is extracted? When a tooth is extracted in the esthetic zone and an implant placed, one of the biggest problems we see is remodeling of the buccal plate of bone leading to tissue recession and a longer looking tooth. There are various techniques that have been utilized to minimize this tissue recession like placing a connective tissue graft on the buccal at the time of tooth extraction and immediate implant placement and "dual zone grafting". A newer technique that has been utilized that maintains the buccal hard and soft tissue is the "socket shield technique or root remnant therapy or partial extraction therapy". Just taking the tooth out and grafting the socket is not going to prevent the buccal plate from remodeling. Ask your dentist what he/she is doing to prevent this hard and soft tissue recession. With your high smile line, you do not want to have to live the rest of your life with a tooth that stands out like a sore thumb.

If the bone meets all the conditions, to put it more simply, if you have a necessary amount of bone it can be done: the extraction of the tooth or root, the placement of the implant, if a space between the implant and the hole where was the root is placed the bone and then a provisional.
It is the best way to do it, ALWAYS WHEN THE CONDITIONS ARE FULFILLED. not only thinking about the fact that you have a provisional implant sustained, and avoid the use of removable appliances.
It is because the contour of the gum arch to recreate it again is very complicated, so doing everything immediately is the best option.as I mention if it is not the case good luckA tomography is an excellent diagnostic method.
