Do you need to take antibiotics for the second stage of a dental implant?

I had a dental implant placed about 5 months ago. I have to go back soon to have it exposed. Do you have to take antibiotics when they do this? I really hate them.

During the exposure of dental implant, second stage surgery no antibiotic is needed, unless your medical history is compromised. It is much easier than placing the dental implant, and usually a healing cap is placed prior to restoring the dental implant.

You typically do not need antibiotics for a 2nd stage surgery. A small incision will be made to uncover the implant. It usually takes about 10 minutes in the chair. Unless you had a medical condition needing premed antibiotics, you shouldn't need any medication after this procedure.
