Diagnosed with FPHL - looking for feedback on minoxidil spot using and shedding

Question

Was told FPHL is in its early stages but the back area of my head does seem to be quite visible. Due to this i am going to start minox 5% foam. My question being if i apply in this area only will any potential shedding occur in this area only? And related to that if the shed occurs in other areas would i not have to apply to the whole scalp to see regrowth from what's shed?

For female pattern hair loss I typically recommend minoxidil to the affected areas along with intermittent platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections to the affected areas of the scalp. Both of these treatments decrease the amount of hair loss or shedding. Best of luck!

Minoxidil applied the frontal area can sometimes cause diffuse shedding, yes. That shedding is a TE and likely will recover over time in most (but not all) cases. As for your other question, if you have early AGA and see lots of loss at the back it’s more likely that loss at the back is coming from a TE than a diffuse AGA form. Of course, a good examination by an experienced clinician can sort that out. If it’s coming from a TE, the treatment is to fix the TE trigger rather than put minoxidil there.
