Change in prescription in less than a year

Question

I had LASIK in April 2023, my prescription before having surgery was -3.75 in both eyes. I have requested my medical records and I can see that at my one month post-op appointment in May 2023 my prescription was +0.75 in my right eye and +0.25 in my left eye. I had an eye test last month (Feb 2024) and my prescription is now 0.00 in my right eye and -0.5 in my left eye. I am feeling quite upset that there has been such a big change in my eyesight in less than a year. Is this normal?

Following corneal refractive surgery the prescription can take time to stabilize. This can be due to flap healing or surface related issues. It’s hard to say if the one month post op numbers were accurate and stable or not and your prescription continued to change over the past year. If you are still in your twenties then there is the possibility that your myopia has progressed over the year. If you are nearing your forties having an eye that is mildly nearsighted is a good thing for near vision. It is always best to continue care with your eye surgeon who can discuss options with you.
