Cost of Ptosis Surgery and Blepharoplasty

Ptosis surgery when combined with blepharoplasty is a very technical operation and requires great precision to have a natural, beautiful outcome. You need an in-person consultation with a board-certified, fellowship-trained Oculofacial Plastic Surgeon with extensive experience in ptosis repair and eyelid surgery. There is nothing easy or simple about ptosis surgery. Please avoid any doctors that do eyelid surgery part time, they are not the right choice for you. Unless ptosis is extremely severe, health insurance in 2017 does not pay for this surgery as it is almost always just a problem with appearance.  Costs for eyelid surgery with an expert should range from $5000-$7000 for upper eyelid ptosis and blepharoplasty -- it will be more if the lower eyelids are also operated on.  I advise against bargain shopping -- this is your face and eyes we are talking about and you want this done right the first time! Make sure you find a surgeon you are comfortable with, review his/her before/after photos and review all your questions and concerns. I wish you well with your surgery!

Pricing varies greatly depending on the surgeon and city in which they operate, as well as other factors. It's better to first find out which surgeon you'd like to have perform your surgery, then ask how much they charge. This way quality is your governing factor.

In Toronto, blepharoplasty can range from $4500 to $7000, with the lower range referring to the upper or lower eyelids only.

Fees vary widely across the country. Correcting ptosis is generally a medically necessary procedure that you could combine during your blepharoplasty procedure.  Out of pocket you would pay an additional $1000 - $4000 more than just blepharoplasty depending on the extent of the ptosis.

Ptosis and Blepharoplasty

Ptosis, meaning drooping of your eyelids, is typically a condition that results in some visual field loss, and is thus a medically necessary condition, often times covered by your insurance company. If you combine this procedure with a Blepharoplasty, your costs should fall in the $2500-$3500 range, more if you have a lower lid Blepharoplasty at the same time

According to RealSelf, the average cost of this procedure across the country is $3800.  I think this likely does NOT include the cost of the blepharoplasty.  Please keep in mind that ptosis repair is an VERY complicated procedure to perform and requires a highly trained oculofacial specialist for best results.  Check out the directory at asoprs.org
 Good luck!
