Major fraxel 5 yrs ago - dark line (like a tan line) in middle of face all over cheeks, darker at top Any remedy?

when smiling, the dark line shows up more from the top of the nose to the bottom of cheeks and over entire side of face. Photos never pick it up or I would enclose one but it is very noticeable to all

Fraxel and dark line

Fraxel is a great procedure to treat fine lines and hyperpigmentation.  Please try to post a photo of the dark line to assess what exactly it is.  If it is a line as a result of the procedure perhaps a combination of Retin-A and Bleaching creams with sunscreen can help fix it.  Please consult a board certified physician with a great deal of experience with Fraxel laser for the best cosmetic results.

Hyperpigmentation after Fraxel

Hi Jackie.  From what you are describing, it sounds like there are two possibilities.  The first would be that the trauma of the treatment caused PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation).  This is a darkening of the skin in response to the trauma of the treatment and is more common in olive or darker skin types.

The other possibility is that you had (or have) Melasma and that the Fraxel treatment caused it to become more apparent.  In either case, there are good options.  We use hydroquinone or q-switched lasers to resolve the issues.
