Post Mastectomy Reconstruction Typically Done Thru Mastectomy Scar

It would be very unusual to perform a post-mastectomy breast reconstruction through a periareolar incision.  In most cases the implant or tissue expander can be placed through the previous (mastectomy) scar so that there are no additional scars created.

After a mastectomy, any breast reconstruction with implants would be done by placing the implants under the big muscle of the chest. Typically the incision would be through the mastectomy scar.
