Implant for lower molar and have 2 questions. 1. Type of implant system. Straumann vs. 3i vs. Camlog? which is better and why? 3i appears to be a 3 part system with screw between abutment and implant, and the others 2 piece systems. 2. Choice of the dentist. Many general dentists now perform implants as well as periodontists. In addition to their years of experience and failure rates, any suggestions on how to select the right practitioner?
Answer: Choices for dental implants and doctors Here is the straight goods. For the best implant amount the choices you listed, go with Straumann. Nobel Biocare is also a great alternative. They are the two best researched systems at the university level and have been around the longest. Straumann and Nobel Biocare have the best long term success rate studies. As as for the best doc, you should stick to a periodontist or oral surgeon as they are the only ones with formal university training of 3-4 years in proper surgical techniques and have had to pass Board exams to ensure that their knowledge and clinal skills pass muster! Unfortunately, same cannot be said for General practitioners as they do not have to undergo standardized testing over mamy years of extra training and expertise as specialists do with respect to surgical techniques including dental implants. That's the reality. Good luck with with your treatment.

Answer: Types of implants. It is more important to choose the right doctors for your treatment then the type of implant. The experience and skill of the surgeon dictate the majority of the positive outcomes. Most titanium implants today behave in very similar ways. There is another class of implants that work extremely well in our hands and those are ceramic implants. One thing to keep in mind... nothing lasts forever... if anyone tells you differently I would keep looking for someone who has had not only the experience in placing and restoring implants but also in dealing with complications.

Answer: Implant types All implants are now made of the same material. What is important is if the design is common. That way, if you have issues, the parts are easy to find.If you choose to go with 2 doctors, that is fine. But if something goes wrong, after the tooth & implant fail one year later.... who is to blame? Who pays for this problem? Is the fault the surgeons placement? Or was it the restoring dentist who left the bite too high or left cement? This is why I chose to do both. I offer warranty & responsibility for the complete treatment. From a single tooth to full mouth.

Answer: Choice of implants and who can provide them? The choice of implants is best left to the surgeon who will place them. There are some differences in different companies but they will all for the most part will be effective. My personal experience has been greatest with Zimmer and Straumann implants. I have also placed thousands of 3i implants and are effective- but can show slight bone loss over time. In terms of who should treat you, it is best to have a team: A trained surgeon who only does implant placement (oral surgeon or periodontist) and a restorative dentist who restores it. In my experience, the best results are achieved when you have two doctors, each doing what they do best. It is extremely rare to find one individual who has master both disciplines.
