Any suggestions on Retin A on EYELIDS?

Tried using generic 0.05% Retin A cream on my lower eyelids. Used it for six months and within that time my eyes were constantly blood shot and lines around my eyes 10 times worse. I get regular botox so was trying to improve the static lines, I'm in my mid 20s btw. Haven't used it on my lower eyelids now for three months and the skin is now somewhat back to normal. My question is I've heard it can migrate in skin and you can get benefits from placing it up the orbital bone. Is this true ?
